Vogel Test

Vogel Conflict Drinking test (Vogel Test) is a classic protocol for screening of anxiolytic effects of drugs on small laboratory animals like rat and mouse. In this test, rodentsare deprived of water and place in the chamber wheresimultaneously punishment of a mild shock given whenever fluid is retrieved. For deprived animals suffering in anxiety will have significant reduction of water consumption.

Features

• Our Vogel Test consists of a plexiglass chamber associated with a grid floor.
• The wall of the chamber is provided with a bottle spout for drinking purpose.
• There are two electrodes attach to the chamber, one with shock grid and one with water bottle.
• The number of licks of the spout is counted.
• Usually, after the animal is shocked, they will have the anxiety effect, and the number of water licking is reduced significantly or turn to 0, but the animal that has with anti-anxiety drugs with reflect a certain anti-anxiety behavior according to the drug efficacy, that is, the animal keep on relatively normal water licking.
• Through our software, parameters such as water licking and electric shock are recorded, and the effect of anti-anxiety drugs can be obtained by analyzing the experimental results.
