Hot Cold Plate Test

The SA705 Hot/Cold Plate Analgesia Meter is designed for mouse hot plate tests, rat hot plate tests, cold plate tests, thermal hyperalgesia, and cold allodynia studies.

Its PID-controlled metal plate operates from -5°C to +65°C, while a foot pedal allows researchers to record response latency for paw withdrawal, licking, or jumping at 0.01-second resolution. An 8-inch capacitive display, onboard data storage, and USB CSV export support standalone thermal pain and analgesic-screening workflows.

Overview

The SA705 hot and cold plate is a thermal pain and analgesia meter for evaluating heat and cold sensitivity in rodents. Unlike a conventional hot plate apparatus that provides heating only, the SA705 supports both heating and cooling from -5°C to +65°C, with constant- and variable-temperature modes.

Its PID control algorithm continuously adjusts heating or cooling based on plate-temperature feedback, supporting stable thermal stimulation during hot plate tests, cold plate tests, and analgesic-screening studies.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between the SA705 hot and cold plate and a conventional hot plate apparatus?
Unlike a conventional hot plate, which provides heating only, the SA705 hot cold plate analgesia meter supports both heating and cooling from -5°C to 65°C. Its PID temperature control continuously adjusts heating and cooling based on temperature feedback, providing stable thermal stimulation throughout the test.

Q2: Can the SA705 be used for cold allodynia or thermal place preference experiments?
A: The SA705 supports controlled thermal stimulation for cold allodynia studies, as well as mouse hot plate tests, rat hot plate tests, and cold plate tests. However, it is a single-plate system and does not automatically measure an animal’s preference between two temperature zones. For automated two-zone studies, see the SA707 Thermal Place Preference System.

Q3: How do I export hot cold plate test data?
Test data can be exported via a USB flash drive in CSV format for review in Excel or compatible statistical analysis software.

Q4: Does the hot plate analgesia meter require PC software?
No. The SA705 analgesia meter operates independently through its built-in touchscreen. Test data can be exported to a PC via a USB flash drive in CSV format for further analysis. And we also provide the software in PC labs that prefer remote control and analysis.
